Josh Marcus  > Latin America-International > The Gabo Trip > Ethical Traveler Photo Essay
Joshua Marcus has loved many of Gabriel García Márquez’s stories, and upon reading The General and His Labyrinth and Living to Tell the Tale he become inspired to embark on a Gabo literary pilgrimage. He knew he had to recreate the journey described in the "The General" when he read in Gabo's autobiogrpahy, “The only reason I would like to be a child again is to be able to sail the Magdalena in a boat once more. Those who did not do so at that time cannot even imagine what it was like.”
He wanted to experience a place where literature was born and share that with the world. It took months of preparation and execution, but the experience is now beginning to bear fruit that he hopes can contribute to an understanding and appreciation of the relationship between one our most beloved writers and the magical complicated land that spawned his work.

Below are some photographs. Go to travelpod.com and search for “ecotripping” to read the blog written during the trip. Some of these photos have been published by the folks at ethicaltraveler.org. They're doing great work on behalf of traveling and environment/ethics, check it out! Please check out the July 13th, 2007 issue of The Times Literary Supplement for an article about the trip . Enjoy.
